Lets help beat cancer with Rosie
In December 2007, after months of consultations with my GP and putting up with stomach pain and loss of weight, My husband decided it was time to seek help elsewhere. He drove me in the middle of the night to our city Emergency Department to face my demons. Following a colonoscopy and gastroscopy, I was told the dreaded words "You have Stomach Cancer". The first thought that ran through my head was: how long have I got? I remember feeling calm as I looked over to my husband Jeff. His face had become very pale.
That night, I asked many questions, and over the next few weeks I went through all the different tests. Bone marrow biopsy, bloods, PET scan, CT scan, MRI. The biopsy from the stomach showed it was a rare MALT lymphoma and could be treated by drugs and chemo. Learn more...

Opening of the Tasmanian Menzies Research Centre
The Australian Cancer Research Foundation had kindly invited Jeff and I to be guests at the opening of the Tasmanian Menzies Research Institute in Hobart, Australia.
The Institute was officially opened on the 28th September by the Tasmanian Minister for Health, The Hon Michelle O’Byrne MP.
The Menzies Research Institute conducts innovative, world-class medical research to improve health and well being. In particular, only Tasmania (and Iceland) have relatively isolated populations and therefore the Institute has access to Tasmania’s unique genetic identity and environmental influences responsible for the onset and progression of inherited cancers . The scientists at the Menzies Institute will work to identify genes that predispose people to cancer and hopefully bring about breakthroughs in the treatment of these cancers.
Jeff and I had thoroughly enjoyed attending the opening of this wonderful Centre . We were very impressed with the outstanding role that the ACRF played, in providing grants to assist the scientists in obtaining specialised equipment for their research.
