In 2009, I received an invitation to attend the event “Light the Night” at St David’s Park, Hobart, Tasmania on the 23 September. I decided to become a Team Captain to help raise money for this particular cause. I was overwhelmed and humbled by the support I received from my family and friends. Due to the rain, the venue was changed to the City Hall. I was amazed as I walked in the hall. It was crowded and buzzing with people, who had travelled far and wide across the state to attend this event. I felt so proud of our fundraising achievements. My team had raised just over $3000. I cried, when listening to stories being told about the loss of loved ones.

Suddenly, the rain had stopped, allowing us to enjoy the walk around the Hobart waterfront. The balloons glowed through the sky. Gold, Blue and White lights mingled together, as the sea of people slowly meandered through the streets. It was breathtaking. One month later, I felt inspired to write this song of my experiences at the Light the Night event.
